Doha: Lebanese film Capharnaum, co-financed by Doha Film Institute (DFI), has scored a nomination for the Best International Independent Film at the British Independent Film Awards.
DFI congratulated the director Nadine Labaki and the entire cast on its social media account.
The movie tells the story of 12-year-old Zain, who while serving a five-year sentence for violent crime, sues his parents for the crime of 'giving him life'. The movie follows the boy's journey as he survives on the streets, taking care of Ethiopian refugees, being jailed and finally seeking justice in a courtroom.
It has won 10 awards including the People's Choice Award at Calgary International Film Festival and Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival .
The other movies to be nominated in the same category at BIFA include Cold War, The Rider, Roma, and Shoplifters.
