Experts discuss new trends in Qatar’s construction sector

Qatar’s construction and building sector provides tremendous opportunities within the framework of the Qatar National Vision 2030, aiming to transform Qatar into a diversified economy. With the growth in Qatar’s construction sector, experts discussed the trends that will be seen in the coming years during a panel discussion at Project Qatar 2023, yesterday.

The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Qatar, in association with Italian Trade Agency, German Business Council of Qatar, German Industry & Commerce Office Qatar (AHK), Turkish Businessmen Association, American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar, French Business Council in Qatar, Chamber of Commerce of Spain in Qatar, in collaboration with IFP organised a panel discussion entitled ‘New trends in Qatar Construction Sector’ which discussed sustainable practices and 3D printing in construction sector and highlighted sustainability as part of Qatar National Vision 2030.

The panelists shared insights and perspectives on the construction trends and introduced new trends, including ‘Sustainable Practices and 3D printing- 
‘LifeRail’ project.’ 

Addressing the event, Wael Badawy, Head of Energy Performance Services, Siemens said, “I have seen how the GCC countries have evolved in terms of energy performance and sustainability. We are looking at the buildings boost construction and how the buildings perform the operations and behaviour of the operators, facility management, and maintenance.” 

He elaborated on the topics related to the performance of the building such as reducing the carbon footprint – the greenhouse gas emissions. “Our ultimate goal is how we are contributing to sustainability aspect by reducing the CO2 footprint.  

We are very active in the Qatar and GCC market. “I see good momentum right now in Qatar as there is motivation from the country." 

Luis Carlos Aranda, Country Manager, Copasa also highlighted the projects in the construction sector.  Paraskevoula Ntai, Legal Counsel, Essa Al Sulaiti Law Firm explained about the legal environment and possibilities in Qatar. 

Speaking about new trends she said, “Over the past years there have been a lot of new reforms as the country is open towards foreign investments. We have a new law that is creating a legal framework that attracts foreigners. In Qatar you have different kinds of business environments which gives a lot of opportunities and benefits to clients.” 

The event was moderated by Craig Richardson, Technical Director, Parsons. This year for the 19th edition of Project Qatar, all the international chambers of commerce teamed up to deliver this event. 

On the sidelines of the event, Palma Libotte Chairperson and Founder of the Italian Chamber; German Business Council of Qatar, Chairman, Henning Zimmerman; Chamber of Commerce of Spain in Qatar, Chairman, David Quintanilla; Sandrine Lescaroux, French Chambers; and American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar representative said, “Now that we are finished with the FIFA World Cup there are going to be some new projects to seize the opportunities in this special niche. It is good for the companies to reshape their presentation on their offerings to Qatar focused on the projects that are available and gain a lot of market knowledge.”
