No cases of monkeypox in the country, says Kuwait Cabinet

Kuwait - Kuwait Cabinet on tuesday said that the country has not seen any cases of monkeypox, a viral infection more common to west and central Africa, underlining that stringent precautions are already in place to keep the illness at bay.

The Kuwaiti Minister of Health Dr. Khaled Al-Saeed said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) after an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers, that the Council of Ministers was informed of the latest developments in the spread of (monkeypox) and that was based on statistics on the countries in which the numbers of cases and deaths were recorded, stressing that "there are no cases of monkeypox infection has been recorded to date in Kuwait.

The monkeypox virus was first discovered in 1958, and the first human case was announced in Africa in 1970.

People with this disease usually have symptoms including fever, a smallpox-like rash, swollen lymph nodes, and other health complications.
