Doha: Spanish World No.1 Juan Lebron and his compatriot Alejandro Galan booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Ooredoo Qatar Major 2022 after defeating Cristian Gutierrez and Daniel Windahl in a thrilling clash yesterday.
The Spanish top seeds spent 71 minutes to seal the 6-3, 6-4 at Doha’s Khalifa International Tennis Complex as they eliminated the Finnish-Argentinean pair from the inaugural edition of the International Padel Federation’s (FIP) official World Tour, backed by Qatar Sports Investments.
“It is a strong competition. All matches are very difficult,” Lebron said after yesterday’s win.
“It was a tough battle against them. We had to play with great level of concentration. I have to say we are enjoying ourselves here. The organisation in Doha is top-notch. We have been accorded every level of comfort we could possibly think of,” Lebron said.

Meanwhile, 11th seed Lucas Campagnolo of Brazil and Spaniard Javier Garrido stunned fifth seed Pablo Jose Lima of Brazil and Maximiliano Sanchez Aguero of Argentina in a thrilling three setter with a score-line of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
“The match was not easy. I would say it was close but we advanced as we fought really well,” Campagnolo said.
Third seed Alejandro Ruiz of Spain and Argentina’s Franco Stupaczuk also made it to the quarters by defeating Ivan Ramirez and Alejandro Arroyo in straight sets. Ruiz and Stupaczuk won 6-3, 7-6 in 86 minutes.
Sixth seed Fernando Belasteguin of Argentina and Arturo Coello of Spain also reached the last-eight after defeating compatriots Jorge Nieto and Miguel Yanguas 6-1, 7-5.
Also yesterday, unseeded Francisco Navarro of Spain and Argentina Martin Di Nenno beat Spain’s Manuel Gil Francisco and Agustin Gomez Silingo of Argentina 6-1, 6-2 in 59 minutes.
