Doha, Qatar: Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC) has launched ‘Dalil’ (Guide) as a pilot programme offering career counselling to students and help them choose right education programmes and professions.
“The experimental phase of Guide programme enables students to book appointment for counselling sessions individually,” said Director of QCDC Abdulla Al Mansoori.
One-on-one career counselling will help students make informed decisions about education and career considering their skills and potential.
Speaking to Qatar TV yesterday, he said the Guide programme will help beneficiaries be creative and innovative in their professions.
“We are running a number of programmes for academic counsellors but the Guide programme aims at educating students how to get accurate information and use it for making a perfect decision to pursue their career,” said Al Mansoori.
He said that one of the major challenges for students is to get accurate information about job market to pursue a successful career because a student in secondary school and university does not know the changes which would happen in the job market within next five to 10 years. “When he/she gets the information, they need to know how to use this information to take a perfect decision for their bright future.
Al Mansoori said the second challenge which is more crucial for a student is to find out their skills in which they are strong enough to make innovation because many of them are influenced by their friends and relatives in taking decision for pursuing a career.
“Many traditional jobs may disappear in the future and a large number of students do not know about the emerging job opportunities,” said Al Mansoori. With fast development of artificial intelligence (IA) in job market for example, he said, the students should be made ready to adopt such changes.
He said Qatar’s economy is very strong to create a large number of job opportunities since many projects have been launched.
“Students need to explore job opportunities which suit them in the local market because there are many supportive programmes which enable them to build their confidence,” said Al Mansoori.
He said that the students need to know what they want to do and then step up to grab their career because everything is available in the market.
QCDC aims to help Qatar’s Youth to identify and fulfil their education and career goals. Through high quality programmes and services, QCDC seeks to mobilise, educate and support its target audience on how best to make and implement sound career decisions and plans, grow and develop professionally, and achieve their life goals in such ways that best contribute to Qatar’s development and prosperity.
The objectives of QCDS are instilling a career-driven mindset through career awareness and interest building programmes and outlets. It also nurtures effective career policies, planning and practices through engaging in synergistic stakeholder collaborations.
