Qatar Fuel Company (Woqod) has extended its offer for customers to exchange the metal LPG cylinders with the light weight Shafaf cylinders, until December 31.
More Shafaf cylinders have been made available in the market, as the company is planning to phase out the metal cylinders. More than 250,000 Shafaf cylinders are now in circulation that are available at distribution points across the country and with retailers who are also selling the metal cylinders.
“Woqod is extending its offer to switch from the metal cylinders to Shafaf cylinders till December 31, 2016. Woqod is offering a discount of QR100 to those exchanging the metal cylinders with Shafaf cylinders so that they can get a special price of QR265," the company said yesterday in a statement.
The extension of the offer apparently is to encourage more customers to switch over to the Shafaf cylinders before a complete phasing out.
“Woqod is committed to meeting the growing demand for Shafaf cylinders. Now the market has 250,000 Shafaf cylinders available at point of sales and retailers”, it added.
Woqod said it is utilising the retailers selling metal cylinders to distribute Shafaf cylinders to meet the increasing demand from the customers.
Shafaf is one of the most advanced gas cylinders in the world, distinguished by its light weight and product safety.
Suppliers said yesterday that they have enough stocks of Shafaf cylinders to meet the demand from customers.
“With increasing availability now, there is no reason to continue to use metal cylinders because almost all pickups distributing metal cylinders have also Shafaf cylinders”, a delivery man told The Peninsula.
More neighbourhood stores have also started selling Shafaf cylinders.
“I think this might be last extension of the offer. We were expecting this decision," he added.
"Woqod has already reduced the timing of its distribution points for suppliers of metal cylinders. Sale of Shafaf cylinders is increasing gradually.
"The two-month extension is enough to phase out the metal cylinders”, said the delivery man. “I have enough stocks of Shafaf cylinders. But sometimes we have shortage of metal cylinders," he added.
