New York: Qatar has reiterated commitment to continue to work with Global Forum to achieve common goals of combating and eradicating extremism and terrorism.
This came in a statement delivered by Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation H E Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani at the sixth ministerial meeting of Global Forum in New York on the sidelines of the 70th session of UN General Assembly.
He said the nature of the fight against terrorism and malicious means used by terrorists to mislead communities and corrupt youth, requires a review of the needs of this confrontation by maintaining their effectiveness to intensify international, regional and national efforts to address its root causes.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation met Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Lilianne Ploumen.
They discussed relations between the two countries, ways of developing them and issues of common interest.
Sheikh Mohammed also met Simon Adams, Executive Director, Global Centre for Responsibility to Protect.
Talks dealt with the evolution of the principle of responsibility to protect and Qatar’s role in the region to adhere to the principle and strengthen it at the national and international levels as part of its emphasis on peaceful settlement of disputes and protection of civilians.
Qatar has appointed recently a government official contact with high-level of responsibility for protection.

The meeting in New York on the sidelines of the UN Summit on Sustainable Development, aimed to ensure political commitment to implement the Beijing Declaration and the achievement of goals and objectives relating to gender equality in the post-2015 development plan.
Doha: Doha will host the 14th meeting of GCC housing ministers tomorrow at St Regis Hotel.
It will discuss topics, including rules of housing information, building code, awards in the field of housing and housing-related workshops, among others.
On the sidelines, winners of the first GCC housing award will be honoured, along with the technical team for rules of housing information.
The undersecretaries of GCC housing ministries are scheduled to hold the 17th meeting today to prepare for the ministerial meeting. QNA
