Doha, Qatar: Major Hamad Ali Al Muhannadi, Chief of Radar Operations at the General Traffic Department, clarified that any physical engagement with visual mediums while driving, such as mounted mobile phones and dashboard monitors, would constitute a penalty.

During an Al Rayyan TV segment, Al Muhannadi was asked whether physically touching a mounted phone would constitute a traffic violation detectable by the new radar system, to which he responded affirmatively.

Engaging with dashboard monitor in a similar fashion while driving also constitutes as a traffic violation as per the official, and would also be detectible by the radar.

He cited Article 55 of the Traffic Law which states that being occupied with any visual medium while driving, including the mobile phone, would constitute a violation.
