A hassle-free and a less time consuming transportation mode is crucial for an economy to thrive. A major reason why most advanced countries have succeeded in developing their economies is due to a sound transportation network that helps businesses to save time and cut cost.
Reaching one’s destination in Qatar has been made convenient thanks to the well maintained roads and a meticulously planned public transportation system.
Office commuters speaking to The Peninsula at the Corniche metro yesterday expressed immense satisfaction about the metro system that enables them to reach their offices without any hassle in time.
“We have been using the metro for the past six months to travel to our work places and it has been an amazing experience,” said Peter and Russell Dekker from the UK.
Buses, taxies, trams and metro are some of the main modes of public transportation in Qatar which is today the cynosure of all eyes having marveled the world with a spectacular sporting event last year which generated fresh interest in the country for travel, trade, education, employment and living. Visitors during a city tour in Doha were full of admiration of the excellent roads and the transportation that enabled them to get a full view of the city.
“It is a wonderful place and I love travelling around the beautiful city,” said Maria Celia from the Philippines said.

Qatar’s public transportation has seen tremendous improvement over the years, largely due to the expansion of its bus and metro services. The Mowasalat transport service runs a modern and air-conditioned public bus around Doha and across Qatar, including several routes from Hamad International Airport.
Bus routes link Doha to the municipalities of Al Shamal, Umm Salal and Al Khor to the north, Dukhan city to the west, and Abu Samra and Mesaieed city to the south.
The state anticipates around five million foreign travelers to the country which has already recorded over 700,000 visitors during the first two months this year.
According to the World Bank’s latest report Qatar is expected to post an economic growth rate of 3.3 percent this year and 2.9 percent in 2024.
