HMC's new and expanded services for skin disorders from August

Doha: The Department of Dermatology and Venereology at the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), as a centre-of-excellence for skin care, will provide new services and wide range of outpatient clinics for all important subspecialties in an expanded facility from August this year, said a senior official. 

It aims to provide the best medical service at world-class standards with a holistic approach to patients, said Prof Martin Steinhoff, Chairman of Dermatology and Venereology, HMC.  

An experienced team of dermatologists provide a high level of care and a wide range of dermatology health services at an international standard to patients with mild to severe skin conditions at Rumailah, Al Wakra, Al Khor and Cuban hospital, said Professor Martin Steinhoff.

“The Department of Dermatology and Venereology situated in the Rumailah Hospital is under renovation and we are planning for expansion by bringing in new services to provide the best care for patients in Qatar,”  he added. 

Professor Steinhoff was joined by Dr Aisha Al Malki, the Specialist Dermatologist at a press conference held yesterday at the Rumailah Hospital.

The new services at the  Department of Dermatology and Venereology will include laser treatments, therapies and clinics. 

“We have made extensive progress to invest in new technologies, diagnostic tools, and novel therapies recently. We hope to bring new therapies for all types of skin disorders, and provide the same quality of care in Qatar which is available in the US or Europe,” said  Prof Steinhoff.

“The laser medicine unit significantly and new target therapies will provided for skin disorders to increase the efficiency of treatment and reduce negative side effects,” he added.  

He also said that a research is underway to  find how stem cell replacement can cure vitiligo.

The Department of Dermatology and Venereology includes clinics for general complex conditions, emergencies, follow-up clinics, and subspecialties for dermatological surgery, laser medicine, phototherapy, allergies, eczema, psoriasis, vein diseases, STI clinic, acne, vitiligo, genetic skin conditions like ichthyosis or epidermolysis bullosa, for example, autoimmune diseases or skin cancer.

“We have 15 new sub specialty clinics in order to provide better care of patients. Doctors have specialty in diseases and always have updated knowledge in treatment methods,” said Prof Steinhoff.

The Department of Dermatology and Venereology at Rumailah Hospital has 22 clinics and sees around 400 patients per day. In total across Rumailah, Al Wakra, Al Khor and Cuban hospital it treats a total of 70,000 patients with skin disorders annually.
