DOHA: The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), the governing sport body received the Asian Youth Games Virtual Torch 2013, after it arrived in Doha from Dubai, as per the relay programme scheduled by the Games Organising Committee (NAYGOC).
Athletes in Doha watched the Games Virtual Torch Relay online, on big screens installed in a number of commercial complexes and shopping malls in Doha, as well as the VIP main hall at the QOC headquarters.
Khaleel Ibraheem Al Jaber, the Director of Sport Affairs Department in the QOC and Issa Ali Ghanem, the Head of Qatar administrative delegation to the 2nd Asian Youth Games 2013 besides some of QOC’s staff received the virtual flame upon arrival in Doha.
Al Jaber appreciated the flame arrival in Doha and the NAYGOC’s pioneering initiative to relay the Torch online in a creative method which allowed all the nations across the world watch the flame.
He also applauded China’s professionalism and organisational skills to host the second edition of Asian Youth Games.
Likewise, Ghanem, hailed the torch relay idea online and described the process as wonderful way to attract the youth across the world.
The Torch, which left Doha yesterday, will now travel to Bahrain, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Timor Leste, Indonesia, Brunei, Philippines and China (host nation). Qatar will compete in 11 sports, including football, basketball, handball, shooting, squash, swimming, judo, tennis, athletics and table tennis.
