Doha: Government and private entities in Qatar marked the World Day for Safety and Health at Work yesterday to encourage safe, healthy, and appropriate working environments.
The Primary Health Care Corporation, emphasisng this year’s theme, 'A safe and healthy work environment; a fundamental right', said the importance of workplace safety and health is an essential principle and right of workers. The primary aim of this event is to explore practical ways in which this fundamental human right can be implemented in workplaces worldwide.
Mowasalat (Karwa) in a social media post said, “Training drivers in the aspects of defensive driving, firefighting, emergency response, and safe handling of E-vehicles enables us to create and sustain a safer workplace. “We reiterate our commitment to work place safety on World Day for Safety and Health at Work.”
In June 2022, the International Labour Conference (ILC) decided to include “a safe and healthy working environment” in the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) framework of fundamental principles and rights at work.
This year ILO celebrates this decision, bringing together experts and constituents to discuss the implications it has for the world of work, as well as how to practically implement this right in the world of work.
In a message to mark World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the ILO Director-General, Gilbert F Houngbo said, “This year, on World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we can celebrate an important step towards this goal. The designation of a safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work.”
