The iconic new National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) has won praise from global media. Several global media outlets have extensively covered the opening of this architectural marvel exalting its architecture and the treasure trove it houses.

“The National Museum of Qatar is the most extraordinary building of the decade,” wrote United Kindom’s daily newspaper The Times. “Jean Nouvel’s extraordinary, otherworldly building, modelled on a desert rose, deserves a visit in its own right,” it added.

The museum was opened by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Wednesday in ceremony that was attended by several high profile guests.

“The new National Museum of Qatar finally opened March 28 and is another stunning new architectural highlight along Doha’s already spectacular waterfront,” wrote American news channel CNN in its website.

CNN has termed it as ‘masterful new mega-museum’ . “Immersive storytelling is key to the museum’s approach: video, audio clips and tactile techniques. Scents are even used: There’s coffee (Doha has an unbridled passion for it), the popular, sweet woody smell of oud, as well as oil and gunpowder,” wrote CNN.

According to The Financial Times ‘the new National Museum of Qatar is a desert rose of mutant scale’.

“In a way, the crystalline design is a clever conceit to preserve the building’s integrity in a landscape of incessant development, a kind of rock-hard aesthetic fortification,” said The Financial Times in an article.

For The Guardian, the museum is an astonishing creation. “The creamy discs tilt this way and that, colliding with each other in a random muddle along the edge of the highway, forming an otherworldly landscape of canopies, terraces and enigmatic slit windows,” wrote The Guardian. “This pile-up of flying saucers is the new National Museum of Qatar, an astonishing creation by French architect Jean Nouvel,” it added.
