QE market capitalisation falls

Doha: Qatar Exchange’s main index lost 105.95 points (1.23 percent) last week when the bourse closed at 8,493.70 points yesterday. The trading value last week decreased by 25.30 percent to reach QR882,581,458.21 compared to QR1.18bn the previous week.

The trading volume decreased by 20.24 percent to reach 23.2 million shares, as against 29.1 million shares the previous week, while the number of transactions fell by 20.70 percent to reach 14,161 last week as compared to 17,857 transactions the previous week.

The market capitalisation fell by 0.92 percent to reach QR469.03bn as compared to QR473.38bn at the end of previous week.

Of the 42 listed companies, 14 ended higher last week while 26 fell and two remained unchanged. Qatar Meat and Livestock Company led the traded value last week with 18.04 percent of the total, followed by Commercial Bank of Qatar (8.67 percent) and QNB (7.37 percent).

The banking and financial services sector led the traded value last week accounting for 38.44 percent of the total, followed by the consumer goods and services sector (25.89 percent), the industrial sector (13.74 percent) and the real estate sector (10.28 percent).

The banking and financial services sector led the traded volume last week with 32.06 percent of the total, followed by the consumer goods and services sector (22.81 percent), the real estate sector (16.34 percent) and the telecoms sector (13.59 percent).

The banking and financial services sector led the number of transactions last week with 30.84 percent of the total number, followed by the consumer goods and services sector (25.34 percent),  the real estate sector (13.14 percent) and and the industrial sector (12.36 percent).

For the day, Qatar Exchange was down 11.24 points or 0.13 percent to 8,493.70 points from the previous closing of  8,504.94. Among the top losers were Qatar Islamic Bank whose share dropped 0.39 percent to QR77.30, Barwa Real Estate lost 1.01 percent to QR29.45, Qatar Electricity and Water fell 0.23 percent to QR132.50 and Doha Bank was down 1.44 percent to QR54.70.

The banking and financial sector dropped 0.10 points, the insurance sector added 4.98 points, the industrial sector was down 2.68 points and the services sector gained 12.75 points.
