DOHA: Qatar National Library (QNL) yesterday organised its first ‘Back to School’ event for young children at Education City Clubhouse.
Hundreds of children and their families attended the two-hour event which included activities to inspire creativity among kids and set the mood for the beginning of the new school year.
“QNL organised the open event for children to develop their abilities and nurture creativity.
“It included activities for children and families such as storytelling, songs, art and crafts to make them ready for the new school year,” Noor Mohamed, Information Services Librarian for Children’s Services, QNL, told the media.
“We are doing other events but this is the first time we organised ‘Back to School’ and we hope to organise it every year,” she added.
Under the supervision of QNL staff, participants challenged their creativity by designing their pencil cases and toppers.
They also enjoyed listening to stories and playing educational games.
The event was also an opportunity to inform the public about materials in store for young learners. Literature on learning resources available online (www.qnl.qa) was distributed to participants and visitors.
Online resources include BookFlix (interactive literacy resource for Pre-K to Grade 3), Edutechnoz (database with over 150 games for Arabic learning from kindergarten to Grade 3), Grolier Online (research and information tool for Grade 3 onwards) and Junior Reference Collection (GALE) (award-winning content for teens, including history, literature, science, social studies and more).
