MME readies slaughterhouses for Eid Al Adha

Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has issued guidelines to ensure the safety of people while buying sacrificial animals at sheep and cattle outlets and at slaughterhouses during Eid Al Adha.

As per the guidelines people should show Ehtraz app before entering the slaughterhouses. Customers are also required to wear face masks for their safety.

Widam has provided 35,000 heads of sheep and cattle for citizens and expatriate to sacrifice during Eid Al Adha.

The Ministry said that it has completed its preparation for Eid Al Adha by providing the service of veterinary doctors and inspectors and ensuring the safety and security measures at slaughterhouses, which will operate from 5am to 5pm throughout Eid Al Adha.

The details about the preparations were announced in a joint press conference organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment today at its headquarters in Corniche.

The press conference was attended by the officials from MME and Widam Food Company.

Assistant Undersecretary for Municipalities Affairs at MME, Mansour Abdullah Al Mahmoud, said that additional veterinary doctors and inspectors will be deployed to check the sacrificial animals before and after slaughtering to ensure the health and safety of the people.

CEO of Widam Food Company, Al Nawbi Salem Al Marri, said that the company provided 35,000 cattle to meet the local demand for sacrificial animals during Eid Al Adha.

“The slaughterhouses include Al Wakra automated abattoir, aautomated abattoir at old Central Market, slaughterhouse at Al Mazrouah, Al Sheehaniya slaughterhouse, Al Rayan slaughterhouse, Muaither slaughterhouse and Al Shamal slaughterhouse,” said Al Marri.

He said that Al Wakra Automated Abattoir is 14,000 sqm and has slaughtering capacity of 9,000 heads of sheep in a day.

“Al Wakra Automated Abattoir helped greatly in reducing the waiting time of customers during previous Eid Al Adha,” said Al Marri.

“Widam provided service to book (order) certain types of sacrificial animals through its app with online payment and delivery service before and during Eid Al Adha,” said Al Marri. 

Speaking to The Peninsula Musa Al Othman, Director of Public Relations at Widam said that the company offered 22,000 Sudanese sheep at the rate of QR480 per head including slaughtering and porter charges out of 35,000 sacrificial cattle which were made avilable for this Eid Al Adha.

He said that sacrificial animals are available at Widam outlets besides the said slaughterhouses.

Head of Health Monitoring Section of Al Rayan Municipality Majid Burhan Al Zaidan said that teams of doctors and inspectors will be deployed at slaughterhouses to ensure the safety of sacrificial animals.
