DOHA: Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) yesterday signed a partnership agreement to create awareness about preventive measures needed to control cancer.

This was announced at a press conference held at QOC headquarters yesterday.

Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the QOC Secretary General, signed the agreement on  behalf of the governing sport body and Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Jabor Al Thani represented QCS as its chairman.

Sheikh Saoud confirmed that the agreement would serve as a  joint cooperation between the QOC and QCS in several programs aimed at creating awareness about the deadly disease.

Sheikh Saoud told reporters: “The QCS objectives are in compliance with the QOC goals in terms of encouraging the community members to practice sport exercises as a preventive tool against  cancer.”

Dr Sheikh Khalid appreciated the partnership agreement.

“QCS is proud to cooperate with QOC in this cause. QOC is playing a vital role in the overall wellbeing of the communities living in the country,” Dr Sheikh Khalid said.

“The previous cooperation between the two parties in hosting the outgoing Sport Festival on the World Cancer Day in last February was a beginning for a series of programmes which will take place in the near future,” he added.

Yesterday’s  agreement  states that both  parties will establish a constructive partnership to hold joint awareness campaigns targeting the community individuals especially the youngsters and children.

QOC will facilitate QCS missions to hold workshops,  lectures and meetings at QOC institutions.

The agreement also states that QOC will  provide logistic support for all activities and programmes and events hosted by QCS.

It was confirmed that QCS is willing to arrange regular awareness messages about the risks of cancer and  the preventive measures to be taken at QOC social media sites. THE PENINSULA
