DOHA: The Universities of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are offering students in Qatar a chance to study there and those who were not able to continue their studies because of the unjust ongoing blockade on Qatar can also join for courses there.
“North Cyprus has become one of the major centres of higher education in the Middle East, East Europe and North Africa with 16 universities and there are about 100 Qatari students who have joined the universities,” said Dr Tayseer Al Shanableh Representative of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
He also added yesterday in a press conference held at the representative office of the TRNC that “The unjust blockade on Qatar banned many students from continuing their studies and these universities will take up the cases of those students with authorities concerned”.
Al Shanableh said: “There is delegation representing nine universities from North Cyprus visiting Qatar for four days to brief students about the study and will hold an exhibition on Thursday evening at Melia Hotel for this purpose”.
“The universities are providing special offers to students and the annual cost is about $7,000 which includes study, accommodation, and transport and other facilities,” he added .
TRNC is home to more than 100,000 students from 120 different nationalities and a highly qualified academic staff members from more than 70 different nationalities, and provides a vast variety of internationally accredited programs in more than 120 different disciplines in English”.
The delegation which is currently visiting Qatar will exchange experience in education field and will also provide to investors in North Cyprus to open universities in Qatar and hope that they will take it into consideration, he said. The study in North Cyprus comes after tourism in terms of generating income which means it has a big role in supporting the economy, and we chose Qatar because of its interest in education, Al Shanableh clarified.
Professor Dr Cem Tanova, Vice-Rector, international affairs and promotion at Eastern Mediterranean university said, “the students at North Cyprus are from different backgrounds and come from different cultures and the alumni from here have succeeded in their countries and some of them have even become ministers”.
