Doha, Qatar: A project to build a two-kilometre healthy walkway of sand in Al Azghawa, Al Gharrafa has received initial approval from the authorities concerned, an official has said.
“The project, first of its kind in Qatar, will be a nine metres wide and 2km long jogging track along new Al Hateem Street in Al Gharrafa,” said Deputy Chairman of Central Municipal Council (CMC), Mubarak Feraish Al Salem.
Speaking to Qatar Radio recently, he said the idea was floated to build the proposed sand walkway due to a number of health benefits it offers, like removing negative energy and excessive electrons from the body.
“Coordination is being made with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to use the type of sand to meet the specifications for serving the purpose related to health benefits for joggers,” said Al Salem.
He said Al Gharafa Park, located at Umm Al Zuber Street in Al Gharrafa, will be expanded. “We at CMC demanded that the authorities concerned expand the Al Gharrafa Park to meet the growing number of visitors,” said Al Salem.
He said there is a land adjacent to the park in an area of about 25,000 sqm which was in use for buses during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
“This land will be used for expansion project of Al Gharrafa Park. There is an initial approval to acquire this land but it will take some time for final approval and start the project,” said Al Salem.
He said the expanded areas will be used in making more walkways, green spaces and landscapes and play areas for children to serve the visitors in a better way.
“Central Municipal Council has launched hotline 44999222 to receive the complaints and remarks from people about municipal services,” said Al Salem. He said people can also call the CMC members of their constituencies directly to raise their issues.
“The CMC members are a link between people and authorities concerned in providing services related to municipal and environment affairs and agriculture among other areas which come under the purview of CMC regulation and law,” said Al Salem.
He said they can ask CMC members to ensure the provisions of service as soon as possible such as building roads, street lights, public parks, picnic places, and mosques among other facilities. “CMC members are doing their best to coordinate with authorities concerned in providing services to people in their constituencies,” said Al Salem.
