Doha: South Korea, Japan and China are Qatar’s major export destinations. Combined together, the bloc of these Asian countries occupy a lion’s share in Qatar’s exports. In December 2018, South Korea, Japan and China had a combined share of 51.2 percent in Qatar’s total export, according to Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS).
According to Quarterly and monthly reports by MDPS, the total value of exports to South Korea from Qatar was about QR53bn in 2018. Exports to Japan from Qatar was also around QR53bn while exports to China was around QR35bn. The total value of exports was around QR142bn in 2018.
South Korea’s had 19.6 percent share in Qatar’s export in December, Japan’s share was 17.2 percent while China had 14.4 percent share in Qatar’s total exports. South Korea topped the list in terms of Qatar’s exports with close to QR5bn exports in December, followed by Japan with almost QR4.4bn, while exports to China from Qatar stood at about QR3.7bn.
The share of these countries was 46.5 percent in November last year. Japan was top destination for Qatari exports in November with close to QR4.6bn, showing a share of 18.1 percent in total exports, followed by South Korea with almost QR4.6bn and a share of 17.7 percent while exports to China stood at QR2.8bn reflecting a share of 10.7 percent.
Similar trend was visible in October as these three countries had a total share of around 46 percent.
In October 2018, South Korea emerged as top destination for Qatari exports with close to QR4.9bn exports, occupying a share of 17 percent in total exports, followed by Japan with almost QR4.7bn exports and a share of 16.2 percent while export to China came at QR3.7bn having a share of 12.7 percent.
During the third quarter of last year, the value of total trade between Qatar and Japan was QR14.9bn while the value of trade between Qatar and South Korea was QR13bn.
The total trade between Qatar and China was around QR11.9bn in the third Quarter of 2018.
Exports from Qatar to Japan in the third quarter of 2018 stood at QR13.9bn showing a share of 17.4 percent in Qatar’s total exports, followed by South Korea with QR12.6bn exports which had 15.8 percent share in total exports.
Exports to China from Qatar was around QR8.5bn in the third quarter, reflecting a share of 10.6 percent.
During the second quarter of 2018, Qatar’s total trade with Japan was QR14.7bn; with South Korea it was QR12.9bn and with China the total trade was QR11.6bn.
In the first quarter of last year, Qatar’s total trade with South Korea was 14.6bn; with Japan the trade was QR14.2bn and with China the total trade was QR12.2bn. Qatar’s export to South Korea was about QR14bn, reflecting a share of 20 percent in total exports.
Exports from Qatar to Japan was about QR12.6bn, having a share of 17.6 percent while China’s share in Qatar’s exports was around 11.6 percent with exports of QR8.3bn.
