Doha, Qatar: Qatar Reads, an initiative under Qatar National Library, has launched the October theme for its Family Reading Program, titled “Cultural Crossroads: Qatar - Morocco 2024”, as part of the Years of Culture initiative led by Qatar Museums under H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The launch is a collaboration between Qatar Reads and the Years of Culture initiative and took place in the presence of Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Qatar H E Mohamed Setri, at the home of one of the subscribers to the Family Reading Program. During the launch event, the Ambassador engaged in a lively discussion with young readers, sharing insights into Moroccan traditions and nurturing a sense of mutual awareness between the two countries.

A highlight of the event was the unveiling of the book “Maryam in Morocco”, a special production by the Dar Al Hadaek publishing house, which included a captivating storytelling session that brought the narrative to life for the children. Ten copies of the book were gifted to the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco to be part of their catalog.

Two more special children’s publications have been distributed to the subscribers of Qatar Reads’ Family Reading Program; “Hayy bin Yaqdhan”, published by Dar Nabjah, and “Hayakom”, published by Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press.

As part of the commitment to promoting cultural exchange between Qatar and Morocco, Qatar Reads also led a week-long trip from 13 to 19 October 2024, under the theme of “Literature and Education”. The trip included visits to the National Library of Morocco in Rabat, where Qatar Reads donated books to be distributed across the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region.
