Doha, Qatar: Shares in Qatar’s stock market witnessed a notable bounce-bank as the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) index surged 229.02 points or 2.17 percent, yesterday to close at 10,764.97 points helped by strong buying interest from investors.
In the first week of July, the QSE Index increased by 170.98 points or 1.7 percent during the week to close at 10,245.58. Market capitalisation increased 3 percent to reach QR609.9bn compared with QR592.2bn at the end of the previous trading week. Of the 49 traded companies, 33 ended the week higher and 12 ended lower and four were unchanged. While on July 20, the QSE Index increased by 228.83 points or 2.2 percent during the week to close at 10,446.11.
On Tuesday, the QSE Index rose 0.4 percent to close at 10,536 points. Gains were led by the Telecoms and Industrials indices, gaining 0.8 percent and 0.6 percent, respectively. Top gainers were Doha Bank and Dlala Brokerage & Inv. Holding Co, rising 3.4 percent and 2.9 percent, respectively. Among the top losers, Widam Food Company fell 6.1 percent, while Inma Holding was down 2.3 percent.
During yesterday’s session the volume of shares traded stood at 186.492 million from 212.156 million on Tuesday and the value of shares increased to QR537.264m from QR517.204m on July 25, as a result of implementing 16,953 deals in all sectors. In the session, the shares of 33 companies rose, while the prices of 12 companies decreased, and six companies maintained their previous closing price.
At the end of the trading session, the market capitalisation reached QR630.665bn, compared to the last trading session, which amounted to QR620.722bn. The indices of four sectors ended in green zone yesterday.
QSE Total Return Index gained 2.17 percent to 23,103.14, QSE Al Rayan Islamic index added 1.64 percent to 4,749.88 points and QSE All Share Index rose 1.90 percent to 3,614.75 points. The indices of banks and financial services, industrials, transportation and consumer goods and services gained 2.85 percent, 1.96 percent, 0.53 percent, and 0.54 percent respectively. While the indices of real estate, insurance and telecoms decreased 0.17 percent, 0.61, and 1.14 respectively.
Top gainers in yesterday’s trade were Qatar Islamic Bank, Lesha Bank (QFC), Industries Qatar, The Commercial Bank, Inma Holding rising 5.6 percent, 4.5 percent, 3.3 percent, 3.1 percent and 2.4 percent respectively. While Qatar General Insurance & Reinsurance, Qatar Oman for Investment, Al Ahli Bank, Qatar Industrial Manufacturing, and Mannai Corporation lost 7.5 percent, 2.7 percent, 2.5 percent, 1.3 percent, and 1.1 percent respectively.
