Fasting people having Iftar meals at HBJ Foundation tent.
DOHA: Jassim and Hamad Bin Jassim Charitable Foundation (HBJ Foundation) has provided cash and in-kind support to 3,000 low income families in Qatar.
Support is part of Ramadan projects which aims at distributing coupons for food items, cash, Iftar meals, help repaying loan at cost of over QR9.2m in the country, said a release.
The Foundation is offering Iftar meals at a Ramadan tent at New Al Mirqab area. More than 10,000 fasting people will benefit from Iftar project in the holy month of Ramadan.
A total of 30 families are receiving Iftar meals at their homes under home fasting project. The meals are being delivered in the vehicles of the Foundation on daily basis. The Iftar projects are being implemented at a total cost of QR250,000 in the country.
HBJ Foundation earmarked QR4m for cash and in-kind support to needy people (60 percent Qatari citizens and 40 percent expatriates).
In first week of Ramadan, the Foundation had started handing over checks for cash support and coupons to the beneficiary to get food items at their choice from Al Meera and Geant Hypermarket at Hayat Plaza.
HBJ Foundation allocated QR5m to help repay loan defaulters of 12 Qatari citizens. The beneficiaries were selected from the applications submitted to the Foundation for long time seeking help to repay loans.
Ramadan projects which are being implemented by the Foundation in Qatar and abroad are attached great important to HBJ Foundation Chairman, Sheikh Nawaf Bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani and as per the recommendation of Sheikh Nawaf the size of the project is being increased year-by-year to cover the maximum number of needy people, said Saeed Mathkar Al Hajri, CEO of HBJ Foundation.
He said that the Foundation is providing these supports under social responsibility to cater the local community by meeting the needs of poor and needy families during holy month of Ramadan to interact with them and reduce their burdens in expenditures.
