Los Angeles: Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr was voted the NBA's 2015-2016 Coach of the Year on Tuesday for his role in the team's record-breaking season.
Kerr only resumed his full duties in January after missing the opening months of the season as he recovered from back surgery.
Under Kerr and assistant coach Luke Walton, the Warriors set a single-season record of 73 victories, surpassing the previous best of 72 set by the Michael Jordan-era Chicago Bulls in 1995-1996.
The reigning NBA champions also set a new mark for the best start to a season, opening the campaign at 24-0.
Kerr, who received 64 first-place votes and 381 points, topped the voting ahead of Portland Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts. Stotts won 37 first-place votes and 335 total points.
San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was third with 10 first-place votes.
Under Kerr's guidance, the Warriors also set a record for single season road victories (34) and also became the first team in history to go through a season without losing two consecutive games.
