Doha: Qatar has continued to lead the list of the safest and most crime-free countries. It is one of the safest countries, but it is a shared responsibility to enhance security and raise awareness to impart knowledge among the community, said an official.
The Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in association with Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Interior organised a virtual awareness seminar on the theme, ‘Towards a Safer Community’.
First Lieutenant Fahad Jassim Al Mansoori, Technical Officer at Criminal Investigation Department under the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation raised awareness on different aspects of safety and security.
“As you know, Qatar is one of the safest countries, but still we have to raise awareness and impart information for people.”
The official noted that security is a joint responsibility and highlighted the awareness tips on keeping money and valuables away from the eyes of the weak-minded people.
Regarding securing the vehicles, he said, “Do not leave the doors or windows of the vehicles open and leave any valuables or sums of money inside the vehicles, while it is parked in the public place. Don’t leave unoccupied vehicles running, even if it is for a short while as invites theft.”
Speaking about precautionary measures while withdrawing funds form banks, the First Lieutenant noted that it is preferred to use electronic alternatives such as bank transfers or money exchange and if it is essential to withdraw cash itself. “We recommend not to leave these amounts in the vehicle while it is parked somewhere unattended.”
“The persons dealing with bank transactions should be alert while in bank and when withdrawing money they should make sure that the place has surveillance cameras.
In case of withdrawing huge amount from the bank, be vigilant to those who are around you,” he added.
He also discussed about security of houses, companies headquarters and residential complexes and said that attention should be paid to suspicious and unjustified behaviour.
Adherence to the residency and labour laws is very important as the head of the family or owner of the company is urged to ensure that the person whom you employ is a legal resident in Qatar and not a runaway worker or one who is residing in the country against the employment contract he has signed, First Lieutenant Al Mansoori noted.
Speaking about protection of identity cards, the official said, “Always carry ID card when going out to the public places because it is the official document proving your identity and it will help the concerned authorities to identify your identity when necessary. Avoid handing over the ID card to anyone for completing any transaction in order to avoid its misuse, except for an emergency.”
