Doha: Embassy of Nepal organised an awareness and interaction programme in the Embassy Hall for Nepali workers. Around 50 Nepalis working in different companies in Qatar attended the programme.
The programme aimed at educating the participants Qatar’s labour laws, how to live in Qatar and information regarding the services provided by the Embassy of Nepal in terms of labour issues, passport and consular services.
The programme was intended to ensure that the workers avoid making mistakes and committing offences due to ignorance of local laws, tradition, customs. The programme also aimed to enable them to benefit from latest reforms introduced by the Government of Qatar.
Addressing the programme, Ambassador of Nepal to Qatar, H E Dr. Narad Nath Bharadwaj, highlighted the role of Nepali migrant workers and members of Nepali community to promote the image of the country as well as our social values based on peace and harmony. He expressed happiness over the compliments received from the high-level officials and dignitaries of Qatar regarding the contribution made by Nepalis in the development of Qatar.
He shared with the participants the Embassy’s initiatives to extend convenient and prompt services to Nepali migrant workers and members of Nepali community. While appreciating the recent labour reforms introduced in Qatar, the Ambassador asked the migrant workers to remain updated with their rights and responsibilities during their stay here. Highlighting the role of remittance to Nepal’s economy, he emphasised the importance of sending remittance through formal channel.
Earlier, Deputy Chief of the Mission Lakshuman Khanal welcomed the participants to the program. He stated that it is one of the series of programmes organised by the Embassy to familiarise Nepali migrant workers to relevant laws and regulations as well as relevant services provided by the Embassy.
He urged them to share the information received in the program to other friends and colleagues as well. Labour Counselor at the Embassy, Shivaram Pokharel, and Labour Attache, Narendra Raj Gyawali, presented various aspects of labour issues as well as latest provisions and arrangements in Qatari laws. During the presentation, Pokharel informed the participants about several initiatives taken by the Qatari government to ensure labour safety and security. He also requested the participants to follow the standard procedure in case of any grievances.
Richa Bhattarai, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Nepal informed the participants about the passport and Individual demand attestation services provided by the Embassy while Bhuwan Bhatta, Second Secretary at the Embassy briefed on various consular services provided by the Embassy. Prabin Bhattarai, Second Secretary at the Embassy moderated the program.
During the question/answer session, many participants inquired about various aspects of labour governance both in Qatar and in Nepal. They also raised specific questions on the procedure and various matters of service delivery provided by the Embassy. Janu Magar and Om Raj Bhandari delivered vote of thanks for the program on behalf of participants.
