DOHA: With Qatar emerging as a premier business and investment destination for infrastructure related projects, Building Information Modeling (BIM) service providers are gearing up to help design and build upcoming projects as effectively and efficiently as possible to ensure Qatar’s built environment becomes a beacon of high quality, sustainable, an expert from the industry told The Peninsula yesterday.
“BIM is a process involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of a facility. The resulting building information models become shared knowledge resources to support decision-making about a facility from earliest conceptual stages, through design and construction, through its operational life and eventual demolition”, said Phil Bernstein, an industry strategist who also teaches Professional Practice at Yale University.
The service (BIM) is an intelligent, model-based process that provides insight for creating and managing building and infrastructure projects faster, more economically and with less environmental impact.
Asked to explain about the benefits of using the facility, he said: “This is a technology designed to improve the way projects are created, instructed and operated. It’s a way of creating three dimensional digital model that makes projects much more understandable and constructible.”
Bernstein was here to give a presentation at the ‘IQPC Building Information Modeling (BIM) Summit’ that opened here yesterday at the Oryx Rotana Hotel. He is also the Vice-president of Industry Strategy and Relations, at Autodesk, and addressed the gathering as a keynote speaker at the summit. He is responsible for the company’s future vision and strategy for technology serving the building industry.
The two-day event, organised in collaboration with SMART, is a forum for developers, contractors and consultants to discuss the increasing take-up of BIM throughout the world and how the expertise and experience drawn from this can benefit Qatar as it embarks on major construction projects.
