Doha: Five faculty members of Qatar University have been honoured with QU Scientists 2015 Scopus Awards for outstanding research in social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, medical and health sciences, and engineering and technology.
QU Research Office was also recognised for contribution to Qatar research community.
Dr Abdullah Kaid Al Swidi, Assistant Professor of Management, received the award in the social sciences category; Dr Ahmed M Megreya, Associate Professor of Psychological Sciences, (humanities); Dr Mohamed Izham Mohamed Ibrahim, Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Practice (medical and health sciences); Dr Mert Atilhan, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering (natural sciences); and Dr Mohsen Guizani, Professor in Computer Engineering (engineering and technology). They are from colleges of Business and Economics, Education, Pharmacy and Engineering.
Dr Mazen Hasna, Vice-President, QU and Chief Academic Officer, congratulated them and said: “The awards demonstrate the level of excellence in research that underlines the teaching/learning environment at QU, and the growing energy of our faculty research impact and output that are a key component of ranking measures.
“Recognition of the office also highlights QU’s commitment to academic and research quality and excellence and its position as a leading institution for research in the region.”
Coordinated between the office and Elsevier Publishing, the award ceremony was held for the first time in the Gulf. The awards aims to honour researchers building their careers in academic research and help them gain recognition.
Elsevier evaluated the projects and provided quantitative analyses using data from Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, while QU subject experts focused on qualitative analyses.
Other criteria were: Nature and uniqueness of research, outcomes, international collaboration, M-index and cited/uncited publications.
