Muscat: The Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) announced Saturday that they will reopen Salalah International Airport to air traffic on Sunday, which was closed earlier due to Cyclone Mekunu.

Oman news agency reported today that the cyclone has retreated enough to allow air traffic to resume in accordance to international safety standards. PACA had announced the closure of Salalah International Airport on Friday for 24 hours can be extended, as a result of Mekunu.

Tropical Cyclone Mekunu has passed the coast of Oman's southern governorate of Dhofar, causing two deaths and three people go missing in addition to floods in a number of areas.

Oman's National Multi Hazard and Early Warning Centre said Saturday however that the tropical cyclone Mekunu has spun up into a tropical depression, pointing out that the rains will continue in varying amounts in the Dhofar and Al Wusta Governorates during the next 24 hours, sometimes with thunder and winds.
