Doha, Qatar: Over 700 students worked diligently on projects ranging from network security challenges and AI development to machining and 3D design challenges. They were also tasked with navigating challenges related to marketing, problem-solving, and human resources — each designed to push the boundaries of creative thinking and technical expertise.

University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) hosted the Skills Day 2025 yesterday, an event that highlights the importance of innovation, real-world problem-solving, and teamwork in academic and professional development.

This year’s event was an extraordinary gathering featuring over 40 unique challenges and competitions. The participants explored hands-on activities across a wide array of fields, including Engineering and Technology, Health Sciences, Computing and Information Technology, Business, and General Education, demonstrating their expertise in tackling complex, real-world scenarios.

Notable competitions included the Cybersecurity Skills Contest, Solar Car Challenge, Sustainability and Renewable Energy, and Autonomous Vehicle Simulation Cloud Challenge, showcasing the innovative spirit of the UDST students.

The Skills Day served as both an educational experience and a showcase of the UDST’s commitment to applied learning, propelling students forward as they prepare to meet the demands of a dynamic job market.

Besides exciting competitions, the UDST hosted a special Shell NXplorers workshop as part of the side events for Skills Day, focusing on ‘Innovating for a Sustainable Future’. Selected students participated in this engaging session, which was designed to introduce them to the principles of NX Thinking, a methodology emphasising systems thinking and sustainable problem-solving.

During the three-hour collaborative workshop, students tackled real-world challenges related to sustainability, innovation, and future industries, using NXplorers tools to develop creative solutions.

The workshop encouraged participants to think critically, collaborate effectively, and apply their problem-solving skills in a practical, hands-on environment, preparing them for future roles in addressing global issues and creating sustainable solutions.

UDST President Dr. Salem Al Naemi said, “The Skills Day shows our students’ preparedness to step into the workforce, armed not only with practical knowledge but also the collaborative skills that will drive innovation and create meaningful change.

“The event highlights the depth of their learning and their ability to apply it in real-world scenarios. It’s an opportunity to celebrate their hard work and dedication, while also showcasing how the UDST is continuously evolving to meet industry needs. By offering relevant, hands-on experiences, we ensure our students are ready to face the challenges of tomorrow’s job market with confidence and creativity.”
