Qatar Stock Exchange (QE) index surged 167.81 points, or 1.67 percent yesterday to close at 10120.67 points, driven by strong buying interest from domestic and foreign investors. With the help of yesterday’s gains, the index once again crossed the psychological level of 10,000. The QE Index had closed at 9952.86 on Wednesday, after registering a decline of 68 points. The volume of shares traded increased to 309.33 million from 200.48 million on Wednesday while the value of shares increased to QR802.12m from QR506.86m on Wednesday. QLM Life & Medical Insurance, Qatar Insurance and Alkhaleej Takaful Insurance were among the top three gainers in yesterday’s trade which rose 10 percent, 7.4 percent and 6.8 percent respectively.
Doha Insurance gained 5.6 percent and Qatar Aluminum Manufacturing jumped 5.5 percent. Indices of six sectors ended in green zone and one sector ended in red zone yesterday. QSE Total Return Index increased 1.69 percent to 19,590.13 points and QSE Al Rayan Islamic Index gained 1.09 percent to 4,158.58 points. QSE All Share Index up 1.72 percent to 3,144.72 points. It was the first gain in the week for QSE as the index had fallen in the past four trading sessions. On Wednesday, The QE Index declined 0.7 percent to close at 9,952.9.
The Insurance and Industrials indices led the losses. The index fell on the back of selling pressure from Arab and Foreign shareholders despite buying support from Qatari and GCC shareholders. Salam International Investment Limited and Qatar General Insurance & Reinsurance Company were the top losers, falling 4.2 percent and 4.0 percent, respectively. Among the top gainers, Doha Insurance Group gained 10.0 percent, while Aamal Company was up 9.4 percent. Aamal Company and Investment Holding Group were the most active stocks, contributing 18.2 percent and 15.4 percent to the total volume, respectively.
On Tuesday, The QE Index declined 0.6 percent to close at 10,020.0. The Industrials and Transportation indices led the losses. Qatar Islamic Bank and Qatari Investors Group were the top losers, falling 3.4 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively. Among the top gainers, Doha Insurance Group gained 10.0 percent, while Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Company was up 2.6 percent. Qatar Aluminium Manufacturing Company and Investment Holding Group were the most active stocks, contributing 15.4 percent and 11.1 percent to the total volume, respectively. On Monday, the QE Index declined 1.8 percent to close at 10,084.8. The Telecoms and Industrials indices led the losses. Qatari German Company for Medical Devices and Baladna were the top losers, falling 5.9 percent and 4.7 percent, respectively. Among the top gainers, The Commercial Bank gained 3.2 percent, while Doha Bank was up 3.1 percent.
