Doha: Qatar University organises conferences, seminars and related events which play a crucial role in finding solutions to the ongoing challenges. President of Qatar University, Dr. Hassan Rashid Al Derham said that the two-day conference on ‘The Ethics of Media Practice and the Falsification of Consciousness in a Turbulent World’, which began yesterday, will discuss issues related to media ethics and the other challenges.
“Qatar and the region went through a major crisis during the last three-four years, and we have seen how the media tried to manipulate the people with misinformation. It is our duty as national university to address these questions and to discuss it and to come up with some solutions, also to the policymakers how to deal with these new social media tools,” President of Qatar University, Dr. Hassan Rashid Al Derham told The Peninsula, speaking on the sidelines of the conference.
Many international researchers, academics and media professionals from Arab and foreign universities and institutes are participating in the conference.
He said that such events play important role in making people aware about the menace of fake news and related challenges. “The objective of organising such conference is that the researchers, academicians, students and the young generation come and discuss these issues under one platform so that we learn from each other and come up with the better understanding,” said Dr. Hassan Rashid Al Derham.
He said that Qatar University keeps updating curricula and study plans as per the recent developments.
