Geneva: The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday demanded the immediate implementation of 30-day ceasefire in Syria.
UN chief Antonio Guterres praised the adoption of a Security Council resolution on Saturday calling for the truce but underscored "Security Council resolutions are only meaningful if they are effectively implemented...".
He hoped that humanitarian aid and services will be delivered to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people, stressing that the United Nations is ready to do whatever it entails, especially in the eastern Ghouta.
The UN Security Council on Saturday adopted a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Syria and demanding that all parties cease hostilities without delay for at least 30 consecutive days in Syria.
