Qatar’s top ranked player Ahmad Mohammed Al Tamimi of Al Ahli defeated Abdulrahman Salem Al Malki of Al Sadd in three games.
Doha: Al Sadd, Umm Salal and Lekhwiya registered identical 3-2 wins in the newly launched Qatar Squash Federation League at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex here yesterday.
According to the format, each of the five players in the team plays against the opposite player from the same age group category.
Seven clubs are involved in the championship which began on February 19 and will culminate with the last round matches on May 14 under the double league system in which each play against another twice.
The most interesting and exciting matches yesterday involved Qatar’s top ranked player Ahmad Mohammed Al Tamimi, donning Al Ahli colours against Al Sadd.
Ahmad defeated Abdulrahman Salem Al Malki of Al Sadd by three games to two (9-11 11-4 11-9 7-11, 6-11) in 45 minutes. But he could not prevent Al Ahli from losing 3-2 as Rashed Ali Al Hareb, Nayef Saleh Daoud and Ali Ahmed Al Qahtani of Al Sadd won their respective matches.
Rashed defeated Ahmad Tariq Alobaidli 11-4 11-7 11-1, while Nayef got the better of Saleh Umar Zaman 11-3, 11-6, 7-11, 11-8 and Ali breezed past Salem Yousuf Al Malki 11-4, 11-9, 11-7.
The only other success for Al Ahli came with Mayar Ahmed El Saka defeating Ali Saeed Al Dosari 9-11, 4-11, 11-9, 9-11.
In the other matches, Umm Salal defeated Qatar SC 3-2 and Lekhwiya downed Al Arabi by an identical score. Al Wakra is the seventh team in the league.
