PHOENIX, Arizona: After a brilliant start to the season one week ago in California, it was a different story in Phoenix for the Qatar Al-Anabi Racing Top Fuel Team.

The race in Phoenix was the second of 24 races that make up America’s 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing season.

AlBalooshi raced Bob Vandergriff in the first round of eliminations.

AlBalooshi, driving for the two-time World Championship team owned by Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani, made an absolutely brilliant pass with a nearly perfect 3.770-second effort at nearly 326 mph. In the second round, alBalooshi faced Tony Schumacher.

AlBalooshi left the starting line ahead of Schumacher, but the Al-Anabi car spun the tyres allowing Schumacher to cruise to the victory.

“Our team made a very good run in the first round,” alBalooshi said.

“We were excited to race in the second round, but the car smoked the tyres, and Tony won the race. I thank everybody on our Al-Anabi team for his hard work, and I thank Sheikh Khalid for this opportunity. We are already looking forward to racing in Florida next month,” he said.
