Geneva: Director-General of World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, today called for an immediate halt to attacks on healthcare facilities and personnel in Sudan, following a drone strike on "Saudi Hospital" in Al-Fasher, North Darfur, that killed more than 70 people and injured dozens.
Posting on X, Tedros noted that the hospital targeted in Friday's attack was the only facility providing critical services, including maternity, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and a therapeutic nutrition center.
He added that they continue to call for an end to all attacks on Sudan's healthcare sector and for unrestricted access to repair damaged facilities without delay.
Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a conflict between armed forces and Rapid Support Forces, resulting in civilian casualties, widespread displacement, and significant damage to infrastructure.
