Doha: Thunderstorms accompanied with the strong wind were reported from the northern part of Qatar. 

According to Qatar Meteorology Department, Al Ruwais is witnessing heavy rains and thundery cells were detected near UmBab.

“The peak of rainy weather is expected to be during the period between noon and tomorrow morning as conditions become favourable for thunderstorms of variable intensity in Doha and most areas of Qatar,” the weather department said.

Meanwhile, in its daily report, the department said wind inshore until 6pm will be southeasterly 10 to 20 knot, becoming northwesterly by evening, reaching to 40 knot during thundery rain.

Offshore, it will be southeasterly 10 to 20 knot, reaching to 40 knot during thunder rain, shifting to northwesterly later.

Visibility will be 4 to 8 or 2 kilometer or less at places during thundery rain.

Sea state inshore will be 2 to 4 feet rises to 5 feet during thunder rain. Offshore, it will be 3 to 6 feet rises to 15 feet during thunder rain.

QMD urged everyone to “be careful and avoid all marine activities.” 

The latest satellite image shows widespread thunderstorms offshore extending over western and northern areas.
