Doha: Wakra’s Bosnian coach Mehmed Bazdarevic sounded optimistic ahead of his team’s encounter with Qatar Sports Club (QSC) in the fifth round of the Qatar Stars League on Saturday.
Addressing a media conference held yesterday, Bazdarevic said. “All our players are fit except striker Pierre Alain Frau whose medical fitness will be determined by the end of the week. We will not take the risk of playing him unless we are absolutely sure of his recovery.”
Regarding his teams prospects, he said.
“The match against Qatar Sports Club will not be easy. We face a great team which is technically very sound and in top physical condition. We will have to be very focused and play tactically sound football to be able to defeat them. Their morale and confidence is high after their 2-0 win over Al Arabi last Saturday.”
Replying to a question on Wakra’s title prospects, the Bosnian said. “It is too early to talk about title aspirations. However, after four rounds, we can nose ahead if the boys maintain the same approach and attitude and the boys remain fit without any injuries. Our team can make its presence felt this season.”
Wakra are currently joint second with Al Rayyan on the league table with 10 points each from with three wins and a draw. Al Sadd are at the top with 12 points from four wins. QSC have just four points from one win after four matches. They are in a difficult situation and the players will have to perform above par to stay afloat in the league.
QSC coach Sebastiao Lazaroni is well aware of the tough task ahead.
“Wakra are a tough outfit and they play well as they have good cohesion. They are focused on their title aspirations. All this makes our job difficult as we are facing a team of high caliber.”
On the prospect of improving his team’s performance, the Brazilian said: “The manner in which the boys are playing shows that form is improving and we are evolving. We have to be patient as good results will eventually come.”
He stressed that all league matches would be difficult since all teams in the fray are strong and have prepared well.
Wakrah and QSC will play their fifth round match, starting at 8pm, at Soud bin Abdalrahman Stadium this Saturday. QNA
