Gear up for a sporty week! Starting this weekend and going through the next week, the IAAF World Athletics Championships – Doha 2019 has a lot to offer for spectators.

A not-to-be-missed event is the midnight marathon, to be held for the first time in World Championships, at the Corniche. Even Metro has extended its hours on September 27 to help fans travel easier.

Don’t forget to take the young sport enthusiasts to view the world's largest athletics exhibition at City Centre. And if you are a fan of classic cars, then head to Mirqab where an array of historic cars are on display. There is so much more to do this weekend, so check the list below to see what interests you.

IAAF World Athletics Championships – Doha 2019
The whos who of Athletics will be in Doha for the the 17th edition of IAAF World Athletics Championships that will be held at the Khalifa Stadium, starting this weekend. During the 10 days, 24 different events will be held for male and female athletes. Doha 2019 will feature the IAAF World Championships’ first-ever midnight marathon along Corniche.

The competition will also see the global debut of the first 4x400m mixed relay ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Long jump, high jump, triple jump, hammer throw, discus throw, pole vault among others will also be part of the competiton.

Only the Midnight Marathon and the Race Walk will be held at Corniche.

World’s largest athletics exhibition in Doha

Medals won by names that matter in the world of track and field, jerseys worn by famous athletes, footwear used by legends of the sport in the last 80 or 90 years are on display on the third floor of City Center. This is the world’s largest athletics exhibition on display since April this year.

Qatar’s very own Mutaz Barshim’s vest and number and Samba’s bodysuit, Usain Bolt’s vest, Sebastian Coe’s Olympic Games spikes and national vest, Jesse Owen’s vest are also exhibited among many others.

David Auburn's award-winning play

The Doha Players theatre group will stage a play by the American playwright David Auburn in Qatar this weekend. ‘Proof’, the play that won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play, is already a hit among Qatar residents.

ICC Folk Dance Fest

Indian Cultural Centre along with Millennium Kids, Birla Public School and Rajagiri Public School will be conducting Folk Dance Fest at the Ashoka Hall at the ICC Premises.

Millennium Kids, an Associate Organisation of Indian Cultural Centre will be presenting Kerala folk song along with Kolattam and a semiclassical fusion dance ‘Aigiri Nandini’.

Students of Rajagiri Public school will be performing theme based folk dance on ‘Onam’ - the festival of prosperity, joy and happiness.

Birla Public School will be presenting national and couple of modern songs with fusion along with folk dances in different forms including Arabic folk dance.

Classic Cars exhibition at Mirqab Mall

Mirqab Mall is collaborating with the Mawater Centre to display classic and historic cars as part of the Mall’s autumn activities.

Visitors will get the opportunity to see and discover award-winning and historic vehicles, the exhibit features six historical vehicles.

Mini World Athletics Championship Doha 2019

In partnership with IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha, Doha Festival City is hosting a Mini World Athletics Championship Doha 2019.

4-14 year olds can participate in sprint pit, relay race, hurdles, high jump, long jump, and throw pit every hour.

There are more activities for the kids to enjoy like Athletic Training and Weekend Championships.

Photo exhibition on Shanghai’s history

Seventy images showcasing pivotal moments in Shanghai’s history are on display at a photography exhibition at Katara in line with the 70th founding anniversary of China.

Chronologically divided into three sections, the exhibition titled “Moments in History, 70 Years of Shanghai” reflects the huge leap China’s biggest city has witnessed in various spheres of development in the past seven decades.

Islamic monuments of India exhibition

‘Islamic Monuments of India – An Exhibition’ is a part of Qatar-India Year of Culture-2019. A total 45 chosen photographs will be on display depicting various monuments in India.

From the 12th century onwards, Islamic dynasties had been set up in different regions across India.  Besides the well-known Mughal monuments, this exhibition presents several other exquisite monuments - mosques and dargahs of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kashmir and other parts of India.

Fall Activities in Qatar Foundation

Qatar Foundation is hosting a number of fall activities for children and adults alike. There is a wide range of activities from language classes to yoga sessions, sports tournaments to workshops.
The activities are all open to public.

Qatar- India 2019 year of culture exhibition

As part of the activities of the Qatar-India Cultural Year, Katara Cultural Village opened two exhibitions; the first is a fine art display of the artists Mohammed Junaid, Aisha Al Muhannadi and Mahesh Kumar, and the second is a photography exhibition for a group of Qatari and Indian photographers in cooperation with the Youth Hobbies Center.

The fine art exhibit presented experiences of Mohamed Junaid, Aisha Al Muhannadi and Mahesh Kumar, that brought a variety of images from India, rich in cultures and human heritage.

The photographs exhibition, organised by Katara in collaboration with the Youth hobbies Center, includes about 50 photos presented by several Qatari and Indian photographers, as they focused their lenses on many pictures inspired by customs, traditions and landscapes of India and Qatar.

Ezdan Zoo at Ezdan Mall Gharaffa

Children can meet and greet with the little zoo animals and experience adventurous safari tours. The event is held every Thursday and Friday
