Doha: There are only a few days left till the 'Lusail Museum: Tales of a Connected World' exhibition closes this month.
Currently on display at Al Riwaq Gallery until Saturday, April 29, the exhibition offers the public a complete look at the new museum being built in Lusail and designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architects Herzog & de Meuron.
Although the exhibition is coming to an end, HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, said she is looking forward to the "next chapter" when the plans for the museum finally unfold.
In a recent post on Instagram, Her Excellency said: "As we approach the last few days of the Lusail Museum exhibition at Al Riwaq I look forward to the next chapter; when the plans by Herzog & de Meuron for the museum come to life."
The architecture of the upcoming Lusail Museum is inspired by the Old Souq. It will be situated on Al Maha Island, Lusail, the home of Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani— the statesman, diplomat, and poet who founded Qatar.
Aside from architectural aspects, 'Lusail Museum: Tales of a Connected World' also showcases a world-class collection of Orientalist art and artifacts which can also be found in the future museum.
In the same post, Her Excellency further said: "If you have not yet visited, I encourage you to explore the exhibition to discover the design and collection before it closes at the end of April."
The Lusail Museum is just among the five new cultural venues which will be developed in Qatar as the country continues to invest in world-class museums and in nurturing cultural places.
Some of the planned museums include the Art Mill Museum which will be transformed by ELEMENTAL – led by architect Alejandro Aravena – and the Qatar Auto Museum designed by the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), led by Rem Koolhaas, Samir Bantal, and others.
