Fourth University Poet competition to be held from April 28 to May 20

Doha: The Ministry of Culture has announced to organise 4th University Poet competition from April 28 to May 20.

The event will be organised by the Ministry, represented by the Qatar Poetry Center “Diwan Al-Arab”, in cooperation with Qatar University and universities and civil and military colleges.

This competition, which includes the two categories — eloquent poetry and Nabati poetry — comes within the framework of keenness to enrich the poetic movement in Qatar among students of universities and military and civil colleges, and the Qatar Poetry Center’s belief in supporting poetic talents and creating the appropriate literary atmosphere for poets to enrich the arena with their creativity.

Poet Shabib bin Arar Al Nuaimi, Director of the Qatar Poetry Center / Diwan Al-Arab  said: The university poet competition for the current season will start after the blessed Eid Al Fitr, after the completion of all the preparations and arrangements related to the competition.

He noted that the university poet competition is based on social values the noble values spread among people from the virtues of things, and the morals.

Al Nuaimi said that this competition, in which a group of poets compete, is held on various topics directed to poets, explaining that the committee supervising the competition is working on sorting out the poems of poets.

He said that there is another arbitration committee, where the poets participating in the competition compete on the topics directed to them by the center to reach the final stage, in which there will be a public presence, and the three winners in Nabati poetry and eloquent poetry will be crowned.

Al Nuaimi explained that the center created, through the outputs of the previous editions of the competition, many poetic talents and creations, which were discovered during the University Poet competition. 

He noted the center’s keenness to hold the competition annually in cooperation with Qatar University and the civil and military colleges, as this competition contributes to enriching the literary and poetic arena in the country and discovering talents.

The first edition of the University Poet competition was launched in 2019, and comes within the framework of the Ministry of Culture’s vision to discover talents.
