Al Markhiya’s Leonardo Henrique De Souza scores their fourth goal against Al Shamal during the Emir Cup second round match through a penalty kick at the Al Arabi Stadium yesterday. Al markhiya won 4-1.
Doha: Al Markhiya’s Mohamed Salah Elneel did a star-act by scoring twice and setting up a third one in their 4-1 win over Al Shamal in their Emir Cup second round match yesterday.
At the Al Arabi Stadium last evening, Elneel scored the first two goals for the winners before Eric De Oliveira Pereira added a third in the 64th minute. Leonardo Henrique De Souza rounded up the score for Al Markhiya in the 86th through a penalty kick.
Elneel earned Al Markhiya the much needed lead in the 31st minute as Al Markhiya took a 1-0 lead before the half time.
Al Shamal leveled the scores through Mohammed Hares Mohammed in the 49th minute, but just five minutes later, Elneel put Al Markhiya on top again with a cleverly directed shot after receiving the ball from Saleh Badr Al Yazidi to make it 2-1.
Al Markhiya dominated the proceedings thereafter and enjoyed more than 60 percent of ball procession.
Ten minutes later, Al Yazidi once again set up the ball which was picked and directed into the net by Pereira to give Markhiya a seemingly unassailable 3-1 lead and saw the Brazilian celebrating with his signature dance move.
In the 61st minute, Pereira almost scored his second from close range with a curled shot which saw flying over the cross bar. De Souza made the most out of his opportunity in the dying minutes of the game and added the fourth goal for the winners off a penalty.
Al Markhiya will meet Al Khor in the pre-quarterfinal with Al Duhail clash next on the cards.
Later, Rachid Tiberkanine scored twice as Al Kharaitiyat beat Al Shahania by a 3-1 score line in the second match of the day.
Goals by Mohammed Al Rab and Rachid put Al Kharaitiyat in a commanding position at Al Arabi Stadium before Rachid added another with a penalty kick to take the game completely away from Al Shahania.
Al Rab scored the first goal in the 15th minute to give Al Kharaitiyat the lead before half time.
However, Al Shahania came back strongly to find an equaliser and they succeeded when Fahad Khalfan directed the ball into the back of the net from close proximity in the 49th minute. Al Kharraitiyat made things difficult for Al Shahania when Rachid made it 2-1 in favour of Al Kharaitiyat in the 62nd minute.
With 10 minutes to go, Rachid scored his second goal of the match, his 16th in the season, beating the Al Shahania goalkeeper who made a difficult dive onto his left.
The winners will now meet QNB Stars League team Umm Salal in the third round of the tournament.
