Shell, Venture Gulf sign supply deal

DOHA: Qatar Shell and Venture Gulf Engineering (VGE) signed an agreement to include Qatar Vinyl Company Ltd (QVC) as an approved local manufacturer of Hydrochloric Acid (HCL). 

The contract will enable QVC to provide HCL to the world-scale Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) plant, the largest energy project ever built in Qatar and one of the highest consumers of HCL in the country.

Qatar Shell as well as QVC fully support the creation of local content opportunities in Qatar by supporting local manufacturers and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). 

This will directly contribute towards the social and economic development pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030.

The signing ceremony was hosted by Wael Sawan, Managing Director and Chairman of Qatar Shell Company. Waelsaid: “We are extremely proud to include QVC as a local manufacturer to our supply chain. This will ensure sustainable and efficient operations. Qatar Shell is committed to support local manufacturers and Small and Medium Enterprises as part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) program and in line with our support to the Qatar National Vision 2030. 

We have confidence in the quality and the capability of local suppliers in the market which will add value to our operations in country; and we are looking forward to opening new local opportunities in Qatar.”

Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Nasser, Vice Chairman & Chief Operating Officer of Venture Gulf Engineering Company (VGE) said: “We are very pleased to be jointly working with Shell to contribute to the development of the local economy and society. We, VGE, in association with our JV partner AquaChemie, have been providing Qatar Shell with bulk commodity chemicals for its operations in Qatar from different countries in the region, and now we are encouraging and supporting local suppliers to join our supply chain.”

Hamad Rashed Al Nuaimi, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Vinyl Company (QVC) said the QVC has been working hard to modify its original product in order to turn it into a highly concentrated HCL capable of meeting the standards required by the Pearl GTL plant and other local companies.

Pearl GTL has one of the largest effluent water treatment facilities in the world where process water is treated and re-used in the plant, thereby achieving self-sufficiency of this scares natural resource.  HCL is a key chemical product used in several steps of the water treatment process.
