Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has continued to provide smooth delivery of emergency and essential services across the hospitals during the ongoing Eid Al Fitr holidays.
Although the number of cases has decreased compared to previous years, the Emergency Department at the Hamad General Hospital (HGH), Pediatric Emergency Centres and the Ambulance Service have attended hundreds of patients including trauma and critical cases during the three days of Eid.
HGH Emergency Department received 291 patients on the third day of Eid, which shows a slight increase from the previous day. Among the cases 13 were related to trauma.
All cases were reported between 6am and 6pm yesterday and majority of them were due to gastric ailments and abdominal pain, said Dr. Aisha Al Sada, Emergency Resident at HGH while speaking to The Peninsula.
HMC’s main Paediatric Emergency Center in Al Saad received 1,005 cases on the third day of Eid, an increase compared to the previous days. However, no patients were admitted at PEC centres in Al Wakra, Al Khor and the Sidra Hospital.
The Ambulance Service transported 290 people due to medical and trauma conditions yesterday, which is an increase by 100 patients compared to the first day of Eid.
Among the cases, 11 were involved in road traffic accidents and two were transported by Lifeflight (air ambulances) from the Sealine area.
“We urge public to keep the incident site free for air ambulances to land in case of an emergency in Sealine desert area,” said Assistant Executive Director of the Ambulance Service.
He also said that a drop in number of cases has been observed during the Eid holidays compared to previous years. All emergency and inpatient services across HMC’s network of hospitals operate as usual — 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
