Doha: The Indonesian Embassy held a “Silaturrahim Night” for Indonesian community in Qatar.
More than 800 people packed the Indonesian Ambassador’s House in Doha for the event on Saturday.
Those who came were Indonesian citizens from various backgrounds, from hospitality workers, students, and expatriates working in the oil and gas sector in Qatar.
The community members were very enthusiastic about this event since this was the first big event conducted at the Ambassador’s residence since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Apart from having friendly chitchat with their fellow Indonesians, participants also had the opportunity to enjoy Indonesian traditional cuisines served by the Embassy such as pempek, green bananas, rujak, bakso and others.
Indonesian Ambassador H E Ridwan Hassan in his remarks on the occasion, expressed his gratitude and pride for the Indonesian diaspora in Qatar. The contribution of the diaspora in the success of Indonesia’s diplomacy in Qatar is not small.
This year, for example, is the Indonesia-Qatar Year of Culture, where the Indonesian diaspora is widely involved in promoting Indonesia in Qatar.
Various promotional activities such as dance, culinary, and sports have been carried out with the support of Indonesian diaspora in order to celebrate the Year of Culture.
The Indonesian Ambassador also invited Indonesian citizens in Qatar to stay in harmony and work together to succeed in the big agendas going forward, one of which is the 2024 Indonesian Election which will also be held overseas including in Qatar.
Currently there are around 20,000 Indonesian citizens in Qatar.
