Visitors to Hukoomi, Qatar’s official e-government portal, has increased substantially during the first 11 months of this year, showing that a growing number of people are now using Hukoomi services.

Over three million visitors accessed Hukoomi Portal during January-November period of this year compared to 2.45 million visitors in the corresponding period in 2018, reflecting a rise of over 25 percent.

Interestingly, total number of visitors to Hukoomi Portal in the first 11 months is more than the number of visitors during the entire 2018, according to Hukoomi.

Around 2.72 million visitors had accessed the Hukoomi Portal in 2018, which is around 12 percent less than the number of visitors during the January- November period of this year. Higher number of visitors to the portal resulted in more page views and led to increased traffic. Since the start of this year, the portal has registered over 16.53 million page views.

The significant increase in the visitors and page views reflects that a growing number of people are now using Hukoomi services and that the awareness about the services is increasing among the residents. The visitors to the portal are not just from Qatar but they are from different countries across the globe.

“One of the main reasons for increase in number of visitors to the portal is that more people across the world want to know more about Qatar. The country is hosting many global events,” a senior official of IT company told The Peninsula.

“Also, Qatar is offering visa-free entry to citizens of several countries. This has increased the number of visitors coming to Qatar. Increasing number of tourists means more people would want to know more about Qatar. This increases number of hits to Hukoomi Portal because it gives comprehensive information about Qatar,” he added.

According to the  latest statistics, Qatar welcomed 1.19 million visitors during the first seven months of 2019, representing a 10.7 percent increase, compared to the same period in 2018.

According to figures on number of visitors, 469,100 were from Asia and 375,500 from Europe, while the number of visitors from the GCC during the first seven months of 2019 reached 131,600 visitors.

November was a busy month for Hukoomi Portal as it witnessed highest number of visits during the month. Over 310,000 visitors access the portal in November making it the month with highest number visitors during the month.

The role of Hukoomi is to make government information and services more efficient and effective in order to be accessible to all citizens, residents, visitors and businesses. It also aims to raise awareness on the public programs, events, news and government initiatives.

Residents access Hukoomi Portal to get information about services offered by different departments. According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the number of e-government services has reached more than 2,700 digital services, under the Qatar Digital Government (QDG) 2020 programme.

The number of people availing e-services through Hukoomi portal is likely to increase further in coming days as the government is committed to bring more services online

The Ministry has already announced that all government services would be made available online by 2020, in order to provide public services efficiently and transparently and to build a knowledge-based economy.
