The ‘Little Engineer’ section of the pavilion of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment at Darb Al Saai pulled huge crowds of students, showing their interests towards the engineering profession, said an official.

The ‘Little Engineer’ section provided an opportunity to the school students to experience the life of a civil engineer for a while in a very simple and interesting manner, said spokesperson for the Doha Municipality, Somaya Mohammed Al Kubaisi.

Speaking to The Peninsula, Al Kubaisi said the move is aimed at making the profession of civil engineering interesting for the students at the very childhood in order to encourage them to choose this profession when they grow up.

The section received overwhelming response from school students from all grades including primary, preparatory and secondary.

“More than 2,000 people visit Ministry’s pavilion on daily basis and most of the students showed keen interest to feel the practical experience of civil engineer,” said Al Kubaisi.

She said that a huge number of students visited the pavilion only to participate in “little engineer” programme.

Under the programme, the civil engineers introduced the participants to the basics of engineering like doors, windows, corridors and rooms. The students were provided safety jackets and helmets to make them feel as if they were real engineers.

Then they were given toy building blocks to assemble and dissemble them for building home under the supervision of the engineers.

At the end of the task, the participants were handed over a certificate of participation and a helmet for their sweet memory.

The entire process aimed at providing to the child a simple idea about civil engineering profession. The planting section at the pavilion was another major interesting activity for the children.

“Amid serious concern of the government to increase the greenery across the country, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment has set up a separate section at its pavilion to educate students on how to grow plants at homes and schools,” said Al Kubaisi.

“The students received practical lessons for planting seedlings at the section in the presence of the agricultural experts and engineers,” said Al Kubaisi adding that that students were gifted a plant so they could plant them at their homes.

The animal corner at the pavilion also witnessed huge crowd of children.

The Zoo Section of the Public Parks Department at the Ministry showcased various animals including snakes, monkeys and rabbits.

The pavilion also had many other sections to educate the visitors about beekeeping, maintaining hygiene, healthy foods, protecting natural reserves and rare species of birds and animals.
