The QatarDebate team who were ranked among the best 10 teams worldwide in the English-language international tournaments for high school students.
Doha: The QatarDebate team reached the knockout round and was ranked among the best 10 teams worldwide in the English-language international tournaments for high school students of the World Schools Debating Championship 2022, hosted online in the Netherlands from August 7 to 18.
In addition, team member Mozah Al Hajiri was awarded the sixth best speaker in the championship, which involved participants from 66 countries.
The QatarDebate team comprised promising national students, namely Mozah Al Hajiri, Al Reem Al Ukaili, Fatima Al Thani, Fatima Maarafi, Mirah Khalid, and Sarah Al Maadeed.
The team members ascribed their achievements in the tough competitions to the year-long training they had with the coaches at the Qatar Debate Center, a member of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
They said they started their training every week before an intensifying phase with an average of seven hours a day.
They noted that the training focused on impromptu debates and offered diversity in preparing for debate issues, as well as a variety of pre-championship trials with other international teams.
The team members expressed their happiness at representing the State of Qatar and achieving a high ranking in the big international event. They also expressed hope to continue training for better achievements in the coming championship to raise the Qatari flag in international events.
They extended their gratitude to the Qatar Debate Center and its coaches for their efforts that led to the team's excellence.
