Qatar sign off with 62 medals as GCC Aquatics Championships conclude

The officials of Qatar Swimming Association, officials of participating teams and medal winners at the GCC Aquatics Championships pose for a photograph at the Hamad Aquatic Centre in Doha, yesterday. The hugely successful four-day Championships concluded yesterday with Team Qatar winning a total of 62 medals. 

Qatar bagged a total of 52 medals (30 gold, 15 silver and 7 bronze medals) in age-group competitions and then further swelled the tally with 10 more medals in the Open Championships on Saturday and yesterday. In the open events, Qatar won three gold, six silver and one bronze medal.

Kuwait dominated the open events by winning a total of 25 medals (14 gold, five silver and six bronze) while Oman came third behind Qatar, bagging seven medals (2 gold, 3 silver, two bronze).

Qatar Olympic Committee President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani hailed the hosts' achievements and congratulated all the winners. "The 28th GCC Aquatics Championships, which lasted for 4 days, concluded in Doha in a fraternal competitive atmosphere. We congratulate all the winners and congratulate the champions of Qatar for taking the lead in the medal standings with 62 medals," The QOC President posted on his official Twitter handle.
