Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the completion and delivery of 22 schools and 11 kindergartens in Doha and the surrounding areas to the Supreme Education Council (SEC) in preparation for the 2015-2016 academic year.
Engineer Nasser Ali Al Mawlawi, President, Ashghal, visited the new Omar Bin Al Khattab Independent School for Boys, one of the schools handed over to the SEC.
He was accompanied by Engineer Lahdan Saqr Al Mohannadi, Director, Buildings Affairs, and Manager, Buildings Design Department, Engineer Abdulhakim Al Hashemi, Head, Educational Projects Section, and Buildings Affairs staff.
Al Mawlawi said: “We are pleased to deliver this new set of schools and KGs to the SEC before the start of the new academic year to receive students.
“We are proud that the authority is annually handing over educational facilities before the start of every academic year. It handed over 21 schools and KGs to the SEC at the beginning of the 2014-2015 academic year and 20 educational facilities at the beginning of the 2013-2014 academic year, in addition to schools handed over in previous years.
“The delivery of educational facilities in accordance with schedules and specifications is a testament to efforts, cooperation and coordination between Ashghal and the SEC to provide educational infrastructure and contribute to the development of the sector to serve citizens and residents,” he added.
The total cost of the new batch of schools exceeded QR1.6bn. They are: Al Karaana Primary Preparatory Secondary School (Al Karaana - boys); Saad Bin Muath Primary School (Umm Slal Mohamed - boys), Community College (Rawdat Al Hamama - boys), Community College (Rawdat Al Hamama - girls), Omar Bin Al Khattab Secondary School (Al Luqta - boys), Hassan Bin Thabet Secondary School (Old Airport - boys), Al Duhail Model School (Rawdat Al Hamama - boys), Mary the Copt School preparatory school (Rawdat Al Hamama - girls), Zaynab Bint Jahsh Primary School (Rawdat Aba Al Heeran - girls), Abdallah Bin Rawaha Primary School (Rawdat Aba Al Heeran - boys), Saad Bin Abi Waqas Model School (Rawdat Aba Al Heeran - boys), Al Shifa Bint Abd Al Rahman Al Ansariya (Bu Fasila - girls), Rawdat Rashed Primary Preparatory School (Rawdat Rashed - girls), Omar Bin Al Khattab Preparatory School (Lejnayhat - boys), Jaber Bin Hayan Primary School (Al Wukair (Al Mahsaf) - boys), Al Manar Model School (Al Thumaid - boys), Al Shamal Primary School (Al Shamal - girls), Al Shamal Primary Preparatory School (Al Shamal - boys), Al Shamal Model School (Al Shamal - boys), Al Andalus Model School (Al Thumaid - boys), Atika Primary School (Madinat Khalifa North - girls), and Al Quds Model School (Umm Ghuwailina - boys).
The KGs are: Lejmailiya Primary Preparatory Secondary Kindergarten (Lejmailiya - boys), Kindergarten of Abdullah Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Model Independent School (Baaya - boys), Kindergarten of Al Ghuwairiya Primary Preparatory Secondary Independent School (Al Ghuwairiya - girls), Kindergarten of Al Taawun Primary Independent School (South of Muaither - girls), Kindergarten of Atika Primary School (Madinat Khalifa North - girls), Kindergarten of Rawdat Al Shaflah for Special Needs (Nuaija), Kindergarten of Al Shifa Bint Abd Al Rahman Al Insariya (Bu Fasila), Kindergarten of Al Shamal Primary School (Al Shamal - girls), Kindergarten of Rawdat Al Shamal Model School (Al Shamal - boys), and one KG each in Al Hilal and Dahl Al Hamam
Al Mohannadi said: “Designs, specifications and construction of schools is given importance by the leaders as Qatar attaches importance to developing its education sector as a priority.”
Construction followed the standard design model. The standard type of schools comprises 25 classrooms to accommodate about 650 students and facilities, including science, languages and IT laboratories, sports and art halls, multipurpose halls, gyms, libraries, classrooms, external spaces comprising shaded parking areas, playgrounds and services buildings. As per design, KGs will have 12 classrooms to accommodate 240 children, shaded playing and activity areas, music, languages and computer rooms, a library, external spaces comprising shaded parking areas, green areas and services buildings.
Designs are in line with the Qatari code for people with special needs, providing ramps at entrances and exits with specifications for bathrooms and other areas. They also comply with safety requirements adopted by Global Fire and Security Systems and sustainability elements and green and smart buildings requirements, including installation of systems and equipment to save energy and water.
